Installation of engine bearing shells

1. Pre installation inspection

a. Confirm that the shape and size of the bearing shells meet the technical requirements. The bearing shell should be placed on the shaft diameter, and the clearance between the bearing shell and the journal should meet the regulations.

b. Ensure that the surfaces of the bearing shells and journals are clean, and inspect the bearing shells for damage or wear. Before installing the bearing shells, lubricate the bearing surface in contact with the crankshaft main journal.

2. Installation of bearing shells

Align the positioning groove of the main bearing with the positioning pin of the bearing seat, and place the bearing on the journal; Place the lower bearing shell into the main bearing cover. Confirm that the bearing shell is in contact with the cover, and the positioning protrusion is stuck in the positioning groove of the bearing cover.

3.Installation of Main Bearing Cap

Slowly install the crankshaft into the engine housing. During this process, be careful not to touch other components. Cover the main bearing cover and install the fixing screws. When tightening the main bearing cover, it is generally necessary to tighten it in 2-3 times. After tightening, rotate the crankshaft by hand and it should be able to rotate flexibly without any jamming.

4. Check the axial clearance

Check the axial clearance of the crankshaft, it should meet the regulations. Check the installation of the bearing shells to ensure good fit with the journal. You can gently shake the bearing shells with your fingers to check if they are secure. If it is not suitable, it can be adjusted through the gasket at the rear end of the crankshaft main bearing cover.
